British passport for the baby to come

Post by bsc2007 » Sat Mar 02, 2019 9:13 pm

I have applied for T2G to ILR on 19-Dec-2018. My wife (T2G dep) is eligible for ILR on 13-May-2019. We are expecting a baby around 15-May-2019.

1. Does it make any difference whether the baby arrives before/after I/my wife have an ILR?

2. We plan to directly apply for a British passport for the new baby. What is the process?

3. How much time does it take for the baby's passport? We plan to go out of the UK around 20-Oct-2019 for around 80 days. Booking the tickets requires baby's passport number and will have to be done well in advance.

1. Yes it makes a difference. If born BEFORE either of your hold ILR, the child is not British and has to Register as British on form MN1 costing £1022. If child is born AFTER either of you get ILR, the child is automatically British and can apply for a passport directly. Your post doesn't state if YOU have already received ILR, which is usually useful to state.

2. Apply online or pick up a paper form from the Post Office, complete and submit original documents.

3. You can apply using the One Week Fast Track Service.

Thankyou very much! Very clear. "...either of you hold ILR..."

I have applied on 19-Dec-2018, but not yet received the outcome. My wife is eligible on 13-May and baby is due on 15-May. Its relieving that my wife does not need ILR in place before the birth.

In case my visa doesn't arrive before the baby, the only problem will be paying £1022. It is relieving that the baby will still be eligible directly for Registration (post my ILR approval).
