MN1 for British born child taking too long

Post by Tinuel » Tue Aug 06, 2019 11:43 am

Hi all,
We did the biometrics and docs for my child at the Croydon centre on the 22nd of April and we haven't still heard anything from the Home Office.
In meantime, our friend did his for his kid in Birmingham in June, and received his certificate a couple of weeks ago.
Looking at the MN1 timeline board of this forum, a lot of people that did after us, have received their certificate too.

When calling the call centre, all we are told is to wait until it completes 6 months and if there was a problem, they would have been in touch, as in "no news is good news".

Is there another way, perhaps email some department, to find out the status?

Our daughter is UK born, we are both EU citizens living here since 1999.

Many thanks, appreciate any pointers here.

Your friends kids application has no relevance to yours. I am afraid we cannot help you on nationality applications taking longer than usual. You must wait to hear back

What proof of having acquired PR/Settled Status did you submit?

Thanks for the replies.

For the settled status I submitted all sorts of payslips, p60s, work info, to show that I was here longer than the 5 years continuous right of permanent residence as an EU citizen.

That is what I suspected. It is possible that that may be causing the delay.

The caseworkers in the nationality teams at the Home Office will not be trained in the niceties of EU law. They would have expected a DCPR/PR Card or a Settled Status update on their systems for one of the parents, not a bunch of work related documents that require further verification.

So it is likely that the application has either been pushed to the back of the queue or has been forwarded to the EEA Applications team for progress.

I suspect that other applications submitted with a DCPR/PR Card are the ones that you see being progressed faster than yours.

In effect, you have made not one, but two applications; one for the parent's settlement status to be verified and then the second for the child's British citizenship. We don't know how the Home Office works internally and where the application has landed now.

Thanks Simon, guess I have no option but to wait. If I do the settled status for EU citizens via the app now, does it help?
Will it show on their systems you reckon?

I haven't got the faintest clue if it will show up in their system. But there is no harm in trying. And it would make sense for both yourself and your wife to apply for Settled Status anyway.
