MN1 Form -- Biometrics and Adoption

Post by emma1420 » Tue Sep 01, 2020 7:56 pm

I was reaching out because I was hoping that those who have been there done that might be able to provide some clarification about a couple of parts of the application/guidance.

A little background. I am a UK/US dual national. I was born in the UK and lived there for over a decade before moving to US in the early 90's. I've recently adopted a baby here in the US. As it's a private domestic adoption it's not a hague adoption so I am unable to get a hague certificate, which means I have to apply for my son's UK citizenship via the MN1. I believe the US is a recognized country.

I have two questions, the first relates to the biometrics. I've seen a lot of people note that they were provided with a biometric appointment. However, when I read through the MN1 guidance it sounds like as my son is under the age of 6, all he would need to do is provide a digital photo? That he wouldn't need to attend a biometric appointment?

And the second question is that in the guidance for the supporting documents it indicates that I need a certificate of abandonment. My adoption agency has no idea what that is, and is unwilling to provide any sort of assistance, beyond providing a photocopy of my son's birth mom's intake form. Has anyone used other supporting documents to provide abandonment?

I am going to be hiring some legal help, perhaps overkill, but given the application fee I want to be sure that I've got all my i's dotted and t's crossed. But, I'd love some clarification on the above questions for anyone who may be able to answer.

Thanks!
