MN1 (Registration) - BRP expire while waiting on application

I hope all is good.

My son's BRP will expire on January 2023, and I am expected to get my ILR in November 2022.

I am planning to apply for my kid's registration (MN1) as soon as I get my ILR, and I understand it can take from weeks to months. My question is: What are the consequences of my son's BRP expiring while waiting on the registration application ? Can he attend school? Access NHS serviecs? And can he travel abroad and return to the UK?

Is your son UK born?

If his visa expires he has no status in the UK.

If he leaves the UK,he cannot return if he has no visa.

Free NHS could be an issue if he has no valid visa and would be chargeable at 150% of cost.k

Probably depends on the school.
He may access the NHS, but he may have to pay 150% of NHS hospital fees, etc. Advice: get adequate health insurance cover.
No. He may travel out on his valid passport but probably won't be able to return to the UK.

Yes, he was born in the UK. I will make sure to apply for visa extension for him if we don't get the registration certificate by his visa expiry date.

Once he get the registration certificate, he wouldn't be considered an over-stayer if his visa expires (as he will be a citizen), correct? And then he can access NHS, schooling, and travel with no restrictions. Correct?

Especially the bit about travelling, when he get the registration certificate, can he travel back to the UK? Or does he need a UK passport first?

Yes, he was born in the UK. I will make sure to apply for visa extension for him if we don't get the registration certificate by his visa expiry date. If he ws born in the UK, you don't need to waste money applying for a new visa extension. Just register him straight up.

Same way your son or yourself can't travel to your country of origin with birth certificate. You/he needs a travel document in the form of a passport for any airline to carry you.
