First Child Passport Application

Post by tbh767 » Thu May 19, 2022 10:08 am

Just registered for this forum and I apologise in advance if I do not know how to post correctly.

The situation is, while registering the birth of my daughter, the registrar mentioned if my wife would want to take up my surname? He said she doesn't have to change it everywhere if she doesn't want to as she is legally entitled to use both names but should keep it on child's birth certificate in case she has to travel alone with her. He also mentioned that because the birth certificate would show both married and maiden names, it should not be a problem. Since then my wife got indefinite leave to remain along with my daughter back in 2019. My wife applied for british citizenship last year and received it last year. However we are still to register our daughter as a british citizen. So my question is, would the different surnames for my wife on my daughter's birth certificate cause an issue when applying for my daughter's passport? When my daughter received indefinite leave to remain along with my wife, we did send the birth certificate and there were no issues. Would it cause any problems with passport application?

No issues. Your child is your child. You just need the birth certificate that shows parental responsibility of your wife and her British passport or Naturalization certs.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

Thank you ever so much mate. Just to confirm, are you certain that the different surnames for my wife don't matter? Like marital surname on just one official document while maiden name on every other?

The previous response you get is correct. Different surname will not negatively impact.
