Certificate of entitlement as naturalised British citizen

Post by adaman12 » Tue Jul 25, 2023 10:42 am

I have obtained british citizenship recently and have a foreign passport. I do not want to apply for british passport yet, so option i have is to apply for RoA Certificate of Entitlement.

My question: Home office website says I can apply online if i am in the uk (which is the case), but as far as I understand the CofE is visa like sticker that needs to be put in your current non-UK passport. I am confused how that process will work if I am going to apply online. Do they send me the sticker to put it myself? Appreciate if someone can help clarify.

This situation is extremely infrequent as usually people apply from abroad - doubt anyone has experience. It's up to you to apply and find out.

They never do that - it's like a visa sticker.
According to the guide:
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... n_2023.pdf
You must provide your valid passport or travel document. Passports issued abroad
which are being submitted for an application made in the UK must contain
immigration stamps showing that the passport holder is resident in the UK.
I would assume they will either ask you to send in the passport (most likely) or tell you where to go to get a sticker issued.
If you don't want to lose your passport for unknown period of time, you can make a second one (it's possible for Russians).

Or you can try to send them an email:

How long it takes
You’ll usually get a decision on your application within 8 weeks of applying online and sending in your documents by post.

If your application is approved, your certificate of entitlement will be sent to you with your decision letter.
