Dual Citizen - Foreign Passport Renewed

Post by Chris1218 » Fri Oct 13, 2023 9:00 am

Good morning all.

My foreign passport expired, and I renewed it using my (new) married name. My British passport is a year old and unused, and I applied for it using my (now expired) passport and maiden name.

Would anyone know, please, if I need to now apply for a new British passport again? (And will I need to do this every time my foreign passport expires and is renewed?)

Hoping for insights from the moderators and anyone with similar experience. Thank you!

At the moment you don’t need to apply for a new British passport. In the UK you can use any name you wish. However when renewing and wishing to change your name you need to provide evidence, such as UK deed poll, or marriage certificate.

This is the HMPO policy on name changes: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... mes-policy

Your British and foreign passports are separate documents. There’s no requirement to renew BP after renewing foreign passport. In the UK you are a British citizen and only British law or regulations apply to you.
