Delayed passport application. What can I do? Any advice

Post by wadeday » Wed Feb 28, 2024 4:49 pm

Long story in short, I had my naturalisation ceremony on the 1st of Feb. Applied for British passport on the same day and posted the documents on the 2nd. The Hemel Hempstead office received them on the 3rd. Everything seems smooth. However, I didn't expect this to be the beginning of a nightmare:

Since then, the documents has never been scanned or attached to my application. I have called and spoken with the management team 20+ times but no one has been able to help with this situation. It seems they are based in Liverpool and can only send a request to Hemel Hempstead office, but nothing more. Last week, one of my family members fell seriously overseas and I need at least a passport to travel. However, I have nothing at the moment. I tried to request the return of my original documents but haven't received any reply so far... What can I do now? Any suggestions?

As an immediate emergency solution a possible option is to request an emergency passport from your home country and return home with that. But if you don't have a BRP and you can't travel to UK visa free, they won't let you back on the plane.

Not sure about other options.

Review this thread for possible actions british-citizenship/passport-office-los ... 43263.html

I would definitely lodge a complaint to begin with.
