Requesting country of Origin passport back

Post by hoods24 » Mon Aug 19, 2024 11:26 pm

Hi
After naturalisation as a refugee, (travel doc held previously) can country of origin passport be requested to be returned back from home office? Who do we need to write to? What documents required to request the home country passport back?
Thanks

If you request it just for wanting to keep it as a souvenir, then that’s probably okay. Else, be careful.

Thanks for the message. Yes I just want to keep it. They’re just sitting there for what reason now isn’t it?

Also, do you know who to write to about requesting them back and what documents required please?
Much obliged!

When, how and for which application did you submit it to the Home Office?

The passport was submitted as part of applying for convention travel document as a refugee. When the travel document was issued, they kept the passport. So in an event when a refugee becomes a British citizen, who can they write to in order to request their passport back?

It’s unclear. If you were an asylum seeker, their advice is
Contact your caseworker to ask for your documents back.
However, be extremely careful of misunderstandings.

Can you refer the solicitor to this thread and let us know of their thoughts on the advice given here?

Sure will do.

I also found some information regarding refugees who are now British citizens wanting to request country of origin passport back on the document link below on page 50.
