Vehicle untaxed and other minor offences

Post by euphoria1947 » Sat Apr 19, 2025 10:41 am

Hi,
I'm applying for citizenship and I've some question to clarify.

1. The question is how to find out the nature of fine and the year I paid the fine ?

Background :
I forgot to tax my car and was driving the car untaxed for 3-4months I believe. I wasn't caught by police but received a late licensing penalty from DVLA register it could be b/w 2016-2018 to original address.
I received a letter to original address and I moved address and forgot to update with DVLA.
Hence, later came as a final warning to pay in full of £80 as I missed earlier letter.
I cannot recollect whether this is from the debt collector or from the DVLA directly definitely not from court . Luckily, there was no court judgement and crimimal convition.

I paid the fine online neither via magistrate court nor through the bailiffs.

I'm going to mention but does this fall under "criminal conviction" or "A penalty for a driving offence for speeding or no moto insurance" section ?
Secondly, is the below mention enough or do I need to mention the reason for not taxing it ?
Thridly, this is 8-7 year old offence, can this jeopardise the citizenship application and result in rejecting it?

Offence/Penalty: Being the registered keeper of an untaxed vehicle.
Identification : registered keeper of an untaxed vehicle. This is identified from DVLA’s vehicle register.
Enforcement action : A late licensing penalty (LLP) letter is issued automatically. LLP set at £80 reduced to £40 if paid within 33 days. If the penalty is not paid, the case will be referred to a debt collection agency.
Legal reference : The Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 (VERA) (as amended) Sections 7A and 19B of the Act applies. The Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2002, Regulation 9A.
2.
Is there any other information about your character or behaviour which you would like to make us aware of? In this section, do I need to mention about parking fines received or I can just say no and be done with it.

3. I also had child benefit claim but suddenly salary was increased and I forgot to mention it to HMRC. Later it was settled without any hassle. Not sure whether this should be mentioned too...

4. Once I apply I'm travelling abroad for little longer on emergency and will come back after 3-4 months. I hope that this shouldn't be a problem. I'll come back and take the ceremony once approved and will continue other process and continue my life here. hopefully, the travelling is ok once applied?

It will be of great help, if the experts from the group could suggest..

Adding to the above, The untaxed offence was on the previous license. I received new license in 2019 and it isn't showing any such offences.

Mention it under "penalty for driving offence etc". No need to mention why you didn't pay taxes. It won't be an issue if it is the only problem you ever had wiyth the law.

Yes but you must attend a biometrics appointment before you leave.

It will be of great help, if the experts from the group could suggest..

This is irrelevant. It will show on DVLA's records which HO can access to check your history.

These are PCNs and all paid in time. So, I guess no need to mention. I'll just answer "NO" in this category.

Lastly, what should be done in this case ? I don't remember the date as it was may be 7-8 years back. I just setup DirectDebit and forgot about the incident. I'll mention the approximate date and shall mention the reason for not paying and the reason for not remembering ...

No need to mention the reason why you didn't pay it. Provide as much detail as possible and leave it as that.
