Registering MN1 for the Child born Outside the UK

Post by Pravin1202 » Fri Jun 27, 2025 2:57 am

Hi Everyone,

I need an info, I am an EU citizen with Settled Status (granted in dec 2024), my child is born outside the Uk in 2019 and joined me in the Uk with pre settled status from 2021 September. As I got the settled status recently, I have applied for my child’s settled status as well and he had been granted with settled status in April 2025. Now my question is as he is living with me in the Uk for more than 3 years, can I register him for British naturalisation using MN1 form? Could you Please advise me on this??

Also please note my wife is on pre-settled status arrived in the uk along with my child, and will be eligible to apply ILR/Settled status in 2026

Thanks very much for your guidance🙏🙏

You need to wait until child's mother also has settled status. once she has secured settled status (she only has one year to wait to apply) your child can apply for registration.

To build on that, for your child to apply for registration as a British citizen, either one of the below two sets of conditions need to be met,

(a) One parent either already has or is applying for naturalisation at the same time, the other parent and the child both also have settled status AND the child has completed two years of residence in the UK,
OR
(b) If neither parent is planning to apply for naturalisation, both parents and the child have settled status AND the child also has also resided in the UK for five continuous years.
