EEA3 first or apply directly

Post by confuzed » Wed Oct 28, 2009 5:50 pm

Hi,

I'm a EU citizen and have been living and working in the UK for the past 10 years.

I am planning on applying for citizenship and read that I need to apply one year after permanent residence. I sent off my documents for the form EEA3 but now I suspect that I didn't need to do that. I've read through the UKBA website and the instructions aren't very clear (to me at least)

When they say, "You should have held permanent residence status for 12 months before you apply for naturalisation", do they mean, I need to have had form EEA3 approved before applying one year later or do I simply I need to have been in the UK for 5 + 1 years before applying?

Thanks for your help.

You are not required to apply for the PR card (you have obtained PR status automatically) and are therefore not required to present it when you apply for citizenship.
