Applying for British citizenship.

Can someone please help me with this question.
My wife is just about to apply for British Citizenship using form AN.
One of the questions on the form requires you to complete your parents details.
What if my wife does not know her parents details as she is not in contact with them?
Also my wife has to send her passport in along with the application. Does it matter if it is expired?
The passport is the one with her ILR sticker inside.
