Can I register BC after 5 years in this case?

Post by mingkan0705 » Thu Dec 09, 2010 10:39 pm

I am a British National (Overseas) holder and come from Hong Kong. I arrived UK since September 2009 as a master student. I tends to apply post-study working visa now as my student visa will be expired soon, and then tends to apply for a PhD study for 3-4 years. After finishing PhD in September 2014, I am here for 5 years. Can I register British Citizenship in September 2014 if the policy doesn't change from now? Thanks

Does the period of having student visa and post-study working visa counted as residential qualifying period in this case?

No, as you need to be free from immigration control to register but this can only be done by getting the ILR which at the moment in your case can only be the 10-yr long residence which counts time as student. BNO does not help here.
