Tax enquiry

Post by cemsadi » Fri Apr 01, 2011 7:44 pm

Did anyone have a tax enquiry with HMRC and have to pay penalty fees before applying for citizenship?

If HMRC says your tax affairs are iı order (after you pay the penalty), are you OK?

Thank you

I think that would depend upon your exact UK tax history, and accordingly it is not possible to generalise.

Do you feel able to give more detail about why you got that penalty, and indeed what was the amount of that penalty?

Same here! I got a 100 quid penalty fee for late return, tax year 09/10.

I paid the penalty imminently but I still haven't submitted my tax return yet. I got one lousy accountant. Will submit my tax return soon too, but do you think this will create any problem for my BC application in late September?

An answer would be really appreciated!

p.s. I paid all my NI contributions on time.

As the penalty was for 2009-2010, it is presumably the return for 2010-2011 that you have not yet filed. But the deadline for filing that (electronically) is 31.01.12, so it will not be a problem if it has not be filed by September 2011 when you apply for Naturalisation.

I can't think that one £100 late filing penalty would create a problem.

Maybe time to move on?
