can i apply for naturalisation even being away for 450 days

Post by preparedvision » Thu Apr 28, 2011 12:31 pm

hi! i need help guys. i've been a holder of ILR since 2005 but i've been away from uk to finish my studies and only coming here in vacation break. last year 2010 i finally finished my studies abroad and is now settled here. now i've searched and read up on the requirements and it seems that i can't apply because i've been away fromt the UK for almost 22 months between 2008-2010. but a friend who's studying law somehow tells me that i can still apply for naturalisation because finishing my studies would be my excuse for me being not here for almost 2 years.

i dont want to get my hopes up and applying now will cost a thousand quid and that's not easy to come by these days. sigh. these fees get higher and higher each year. i remember my parents applying for naturalisation 10 years ago and it cost them almost ten times less than the price today.

does this mean i have to wait for another 4 years to apply for naturalisation?

thanks in advance for your help guys! :)
