sophia naturalization act

Post by emily123 » Sat Nov 19, 2011 3:09 pm

Is my mother a British citizen? am I? My grandfather was a British Citizen because he was a descendant of Sophia of Hanover. He was Protestant and born in USA in 1915. My mother, also Protestant, was born in 1956 in USA. The Sophia Naturalization Act had been repealed by then. Was my mom a British citizen because her dad was? I was born in 1978 in USA, but I am Catholic.

An interesting point. Have a read of this UKBA document, well at least the first part of that document.

In the terms of that document, did your Grandfather ever claim to be British?

my grandfather had no way of knowing he was descended from sophia of hanover and he never claimed to being british. he knew he was of english descent. i found this information out last year when doing genealogy research on the internet.
