British Citizenship - period residing in UK

Post by conno26 » Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:04 am

My wife came to UK in Aug 2010 under a spouse settlement visa. Because we had been married and living together for over 4 years prior to coming to UK she was subsequently granted a residence permit with a definite right to remain (until Oct 12) and was advised she could apply for ILR as soon as she passed the Life in the UK test. She received ILR in November this year. Can she apply for Citizenship next November (1 year after receiving ILR) or must she wait 3 years from time of original entry to UK?

The qualifying residence period for spouse of BC is 3 years so she will need to wait until this requirement and the other spouse requirements are met.
