i have been in uk in settlement visa for the last 4years. I have recently been married and my wife has a british passport. I am abit confused if i can apply for british passport now or I would have to wait until my 5year period. I would be glad if you could help me out. Thank you!

You need to prove as you have been living with your partner for at least 2 years. I would suggest you to apply spouse visa

what do you mean by a settlement visa? Do you have indefinite leave to remain in the UK?

Greenie! yes it is indefinite leave to enter. i think it is same as ILR.

If you meet the residential requirements, you can apply now. Spouse of a BC needs 3 yrs, not 5 yrs

does it need to be 3 years from the date of marriage (i got married 2months back) or i can apply now as i've been living in uk for the last 4years in Indefinite visa? Thank you.
