My son's ILR document has been lost by our solicitor

Hi, my son was awarded ILR 15 months ago. HO made a mistake in his date of birth so we had to send it back. The solicitor was taking care of it and claims he sent it to HO but can not find the proof of postage and HO states they never received it. Now we are stuck. Can we still apply for his citizenship without having the hard copy of the ILR? I am a permanent resident and father received his british citizenship few days ago. Many thanks

Was son born in the United Kingdom?

Solicitor should have kept a copy of what was sent to Home Office - are you saying that he didn't? I would suggest that could be a basis for a complaint to the Law Society.

Thanks JAJ. Yes, my son was born in the UK. He received ILR with his dad 1.5 years ago. The solicitor can not find the ILR papers or the proof of this being sent back to the HO. They said they will send a letter to HO asking for a duplicate of the certificate as they lost it. I imagine this will take months to get sorted. Can I apply for my son's british citizenship without having the actual document?

I didn't think of complaning to the Law Society but guess this will not really help my situation anyway.. thanks
