The courier company originally tried to deliver the passport on 5 Dec but it was 7.45pm and they couldn't give it to the security guard at my office. I had no idea they might deliver it so late in the evening. Turns out if you need someone else to sign for it you have to leave a letter of authorization and some id. Word to the wise! I was starting to get panicked when I received their letter (!) Monday gone saying that they had tried and failed to deliver it. Very happy that it is now in my hand, and this long and torturous journey is over! Good luck to everyone else waiting!
