ILR or direct citizenship for my child

Myself and my 2 dependants (wife + child) are currently on Tier 1 General. I am now eligible for ILR and wondering what is the most cost effective way of ultimately obtaining British citizenship.

My son was born in the UK, and I understand he can obtain citizenship before me, but I am not sure whether he needs to go through the ILR route. I am asking because I was told two different things from two different UKBA departments.

Many thanks in advance.

As your son was born in UK, you can skip his ILR and register him as BC once one of the parents gets ILR. (But if you have plans to travel then you should apply for your son’s ILR as his registration + plus British passport can take 3-4 months in total).

Thanks! That answers my question completely. And sorry about asking a redundant question - somehow did not notice the FAQ...
