Spouse's eligibility related question

Post by dikushah82 » Thu May 10, 2012 10:31 pm

Hello,

I came to UK in March, 2006 and my wife in April, 2009. We both got our ILR in May 2011.

I think, I'll be definitely eligible for Naturalisation in May, 2012 (more than 5 years in the UK and 1+ year after ILR) but I'm confused about my wife's eligibility.

In May 2012, my wife will have 1+ year on her ILR but she wouldn't have completed 5 years in UK so , I think, she might not be eligible for Naturalisation, is that correct?

Another thinking is, if I apply for Naturalisation in May 2012 and I get my citizenship in few months time then my wife will be eligible straight away because she will be a spouse of British citizen, more than 3+ years in the UK and more than 1+ year after ILR. In this case, we both need to apply separately and pay individual fees (around £851 each).

Is above understanding correct or there is any rule/alternative which allows both of us to apply together (in May 2012) to save money on fees?

Thank you.

Regards

There is alternative route although there is no guarantee it will work.
