Me and my wife are going to apply for naturalisation and there's no one in the list of referees she knows or who knows her in a 'proffessional capacity' but there are many in the list who knows her personally.

How do they actually verify this. If we provide some one as a referee (say a Registered Nurse) can they actually check whether they too know each other in a proffessional capacity (other than asking the referee abt her)?

I too would prefer to use my mates as a referee rathen than some of my colleagues to whom you don't want to disclose personal details (same for them too - they too have to write their personal details in the form)

any suggestions guys?

Why do you think they need to know you in a professional capacity? They just need to be professionals but can just be friends.
