Hello All,

I would really appreciate if you all could advice on the questions below.
My daughter was born in UK. Me, my husband and daughter have had our ILR (5 year workpermit) on 17th May 2012 and my daugher was 18 months old at the time. We have not claimed any child benefits so far however we were thinking of registering for it soon.

We would like to know :
1) Would Claiming child cause any problem when applying British Citizenship
2) Do we all have to apply for Naturalisation or no need for my daughter as she was born in here
3) After Naturisation, can I travel to India on my Indian passport
4) Do I immediately go for British passport once I naturalisation is done
5) After getting British passport would I have to surrender my Indian passport

Thanks in advance.

1. No. You are allowed to claim benefits once ILR is obtained.
2. If you want her to become British, she will need to apply. She is not British until the application is approved.
3. I believe there is a 3 months grace period. After that, any travel on Indian passport attracts a penalty.
4. If you wish to.
5. It is not after getting British passport but after becoming British following the ceremony. Check the HCI website for details.

I wonder how this works. From the required document checklist, it is essential to have a new British passport according to vfs

"Self attested photocopy of British / Foreign Passport"
