What supporting documents are you required to send to IPS for applying for first passport for my husband who was born outside UK before 1983?

Assuming he is naturalised British (and not British from birth) - his passport + naturalisation certificate.
I suggest he reads -
Passport guide. Page 14 has a table of the supporting documents required.

He is naturalised as a British.
So he has to give his current passport and naturalisation certificate.
Is he required to send the passport he entered the UK with? If so, then it was lost, so is he required to send the original police report?
Also, it says on that guide if you were born overseas then provide:
Your father’s birth certificate or naturalisation or registration certificate
His marriage certificate to your mother
Are you required to provide these?

No.

No. This is only required if BC was obtained through the parents. The table on page 14 summarise it all.

Makes sense. Thank you for clarifying it all!
