We both are naturalised British citizens.

As we did not have any family or friends here in the UK, we left our son in care of our parents. Now that we are settled here, we want to bring him in and apply for the passport. Can someone please advise the procedure? Does he get ILR to start with or can he get British Citizenship directly as both of us are British.

He is 11 years old

Thanks in advance

If either of you was not a British citizen when the child was born then the child is not yet British and therefore cannot apply for British passport.

In such case:
1. The child will need to apply for entry clearance as child of settled person / British citizen to enter UK. Given that both parents are British citizens, the child should be granted Indefinite Leave to Enter.
2. When in UK, the child will need to register as a British citizen under section 3(1).
3. After the child has been registered as a British citizen, he may apply for a British passport.

Child under 13 is not subject to any qualifying residential period requirement for the purpose of registration as a British citizen.
