Dates on passport application

Post by mg33 » Sat Nov 17, 2012 7:18 pm

Hi all,

I filled out my British Passport application today even though my citizenship ceremony is not until next week. I got my countersignatory to sign the application today and he dated it today. My plan is to go straight from the ceremony to the post office next week (I'll add the certificate details to the passport application after the ceremony).

But then I realised that the date on the naturalisation certificate will be after the date my countersignatory has signed his declaration, which might be a problem because that part is supposed to be signed once the rest of the application is filled in.

Do the experts here think that will be a problem? I've read on here stories of other people going straight from the ceremony to the post office so people must have some ideas.

Thanks in advance!

This is likely to cause a problem (delay to the application). The countersignatory needs to sign after the ceremony. Get a new form.

Hi mg33,

I have done the same very recently and did not cause me any problem.

So it should be fine even if your counter-signatory signs the passport form before your citizenship cermony is completed.

Interesting... I think ill try and get it resigned if I can. Its hard because my former colleague lives so far away!

We had reports in the forum of countersignatory being contacted because the date preceded the ceremony. This means one or two weeks of delay to the application. If you not in a rush, you can take the risk.
