Passport: Section 3 diff between Uncancelled and expired PP

Hi - I really didn't understand difference between uncancelled and expired passport. As per passport guidelines, I have to send Uncancelled passports (which doesn't have corner cover cut off). Also it says I have to send expired passports.
In my case I have renewed my Indian passport couple of yrs back so it has a corner cut off. I am holding new passport and expired one (which has a cover cut off).
Really confused whether to send this(expired/Cut off) passport or not, which has my entry clearance stamp.
Any suggestions please.

Does your expired passport have the date you first came into the UK? I would say you just send it to them, it doesn't do any harm. They will decide if they need it or not.

Cancelled passport will normally have a 'CANCELLED' stamp all over it. It could be an unexpired passport, or may have expired by now.
Expired passport is one which is past its 'use by' date. Some countries cancel expired passports, others cut ears off, some take it back, while others don't do anything.
