My aunt has a British passport, she was born in Kenya, and came over to the UK in the 70's (granted british nationality), stayed here a few years before marrying and moveing permanantly to Pakistan. She has not returned to the UK for over 40 years!

She applied for her British passport recently (as she did not renew it for 40 years) and it was successfully granted and picked up a few weeks ago. It was not easy getting an expired 40 year british passport renewed as you can imagine.

Now the problem is she has a 24 year old daughter who lives with her, the daughter was born in Pakistan. The daughter is dependant on her mother, and so both would lke to travel together to the UK for a visit, for a wedding and to meet relatives after 40 years. (My aunt has 3 sisters and a brother all British nationals living here.)

Would the best route be a visiters visa for the daughter? Would regular proof of monies and accomodation be shown for the daughter if she applied for a visiter visa?

Are there any other type of visa the daughter can apply for?

Why was your aunt granted British nationality? If she was naturalised or British otherwise than by descent, before her daughter's birth, then her daughter is automatically British by descent (2(1)(a)).

My aunt was granted British Nationality when GB exited from Kenya in the 60's and migrants and children of migrant workers from the commenwealth where given an option of either becomeing Kenyan citizens or becoming British citizens. Her father and mother also became British citizens.

Would that make her 'British otherwise by decent' ?
