I am unsure whether a retired person can act as a professional referee for me.

I am wanting to ask a retired social worker who is a family friend to act as one of mine. Will this do?

Thanks

If you check the thread http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=122565, there are plenty of similar questions there but no definitive answers, only speculation.

Thanks. Unfortunately the above thread doesn't discuss this issue.

I could enquire direct from the UKBA (will attempt to this week) but would also like experiential advice.

Thanks Jambo.

One would expect such an important detail to be on the UKBA website...

I will ring them and ask if there is a blanket refusal of all retired professional referees.

Will post back.

Interesting that IPS do accept retired professionals for passport application (it is stated in the paasport guide).
