Is NI number mandatory for Naturalisation?

I am just about to apply for me and my wife’s naturalisation after completing 1 year post ILR. Section 1 in AN Form asks for your National Insurance Number.

My wife has been a homemaker all through the 6 years of our stay in this country and has never worked in any capacity outside of home. She does not have a National Insurance number. Is it mandatory to provide a NI number?

Can someone please advise and maybe share if someone has been in a similar situation and have applied successfully without a NI number?

If she never had one she can`t provide this info.
I would explain in additional info what you just explained here.

Have your wife telephone the HMRC and request a new NI number she may need it in the future anyway
