If that Child is born in UK, you can get a British passport directly.
Good Luck.

My friend is Italian and he has permanent resident (but not his wife), they are gonna have a baby in August, will the baby be automatically British Citizen? do they have to apply with MN1?

Thank you

If the Italian father has PR (because he lives in the UK for more than 5 years exercising treaty rights), then the UK born child would be British from birth. No need for MN1. They can apply directly for a passport providing evidence of the father status in the UK (such as PR card or proof of employment for 5 years).
