Hi Forum,

Realised lately that me and spouse will have to take another test to prove the english requirement, before our naturalization in December 2013.

I think there are 2 good options I can see:

1) Cambridge Key English test - dont know cost and complexity.
2) IELTS - there is an academic and a general test, which one is relevant? I think the cost is 131 per person, prety steep.

Any suggestions which I should take 1 or 2, and if 2 acedemic or general?

Also is there a way I can avoid this? We are both educated in the English language and did our professional degrees in English as well. I actually took IELTS while applying for my initial HSMP, but thats expired now.

Neither of you should be required to take additional tests (only KoLL) based on your degrees being comparable to UK degrees and being taught in English.

Thanks for the inputs.

By KOLL you mean LIUK? Thats all we have from last year when we applied for our ILR.

Also, although our degrees are in english, it doesnt specifically say they were taught in English.

Would we have to have this certified from Naric or something?

You may have to get a statement of comparability if the degrees are not awarded at least 10 points on the PBS calculator. Wait for the guidance which should be published soon.

i am going to suggest something else. My wife has used www.englishexamcentres.co.uk for ESOL - Grade 5 B1 cert required for Citizenship from Trinity college..

Very easy 10 mins exam cost 110 pounds.

I would wait until the Home Office produces an approved list before booking any course.

I think I am going to wait for the new guidance to come out too. Since this change is effective Oct 2013, it should come out by next month at the latest, which still leave me 2 months to get this certificate if required.

if you have a degree taught in the UK then you don't have to prove your english proficiency. just include the degree certificate


and you won't have to take LIUK test again either as it should still be valid
