Telephone number for HO to check BC application progress

Apologies for asking if this has already been covered but what is the current telephone number to call to check BC progress / speak to someone about progress?
I was given 0845 010 5200 on a form given to me by the NCS but it just goes to a recorded message telling people to send an email instead.
I would like to speak to someone at the HO about my application. Is there a direct telephone number I can use or do we have to use email?

Best thing you can do is try ringing the NCS and speak to the person who checked your form, ask them to ring a UKBA caseworker (they have a direct number) and see what's going on.

Oh cheers for letting me know! I might try email but really want to speak to someone, sometimes I find email communication so frustrating!
