Wanted to know

After naturalization, having not applied for a British passport yet, could i travel with my old passport and ILR?

I just got naturalized. I am a Tanzanian women passport holder married to BC. Have booked holiday for 24th November. If I apply for British Passport now and if it takes the maximum of 6 weeks, I will not be able to go.

I would really appreciate your help.

Passport applications don't take 6 weeks. They can take upto 6 weeks but the vast majority of them are done in 2-3 weeks. You can also wait and use your old ILR (which is technically invalid) to enter the UK. You are a British citizen and therefore has a right to enter the UK.

I prefer not taking a risk - incase it takes 6 weeks. In that case...

would I not be hassled at UKBA when entering back?

Would I need a Right of Abode stamp?

Do i travel with the naturalization certificate?

When landing back in UK, i fill in landing card - what nationality would I put? lol so confusing..

sorry for all the Qs - just nervous.

Honestly, it depends on where if Tanzania allows dual citizenship. If they do, then you can use your old passport and would have no problems at immigration control, as long as you have the necessary permits to enter the country you are visiting. If no dual citizenship is allowed then am afraid, you may have to wait until your passport is processed.

Please this is only my opinion and does not represent an expert view on this matter. You will have to wait for more members to respond.

So another confusing thing here is that Tanzania doesnt allow dual citizenship, except in the case of Tanzanian woman acquiring foreign nationality through marriage. Which is what I have done. So may be I am safe?

You need to check if your country allows certain months grace period to travel on current passport, if they do then no need to worry, just use current Tanzanian passport and your ILR BRP card to return back, just be sure to return within grace period allowed or else you may have to pay a penalty.

Also on coming back you can show your citizenship certificate to take advantage of BC queue at airport.

Just a quick one I don't seem to be able to find grace period for Tanzania - so far only found India, Do you know if there is a specific website or place I can look at for this?

Check your embassy or high commission website, if you cannot find information on the embassy website, then phone them and ask.
