Certificate of British citizenship for a citizen by descent

Hi

This is a question about whether (and if it is a good idea to get one, then how) to get a "Certificate of Citizenship" for a child who is British by descent and currently holds a British Citizen passport.

My daughter (minor) is a British Citizen (by descent; she was born abroad to me - a naturalised British Citizen before her birth). We have her UK style Birth certificate issued by the appropriate British consulate/embassy abroad (which does mention the approaptie section as to how she is British citizen (i think it says 2.1.a if i remember correctly), using which we applied and got her British Passport.

Now, i know there may not be a need to apply and get a separate certificate to prove her citizenship, but i was wondering if that was possible, for a small fee, then why not apply for one and keep it too.

So, my questions:

1. Is it possible to apply for one such certificate. What is such a certificate called.
2. How to apply for one - i.e. application forms, and the procedure - i.e. supporting documents to submit, etc.

Please advise.

Thanks Amber.

Yes, I did visit this link earlier on, but I thought this was for a specific purpose - i.e. when i read this bit in the document...

"This guide is intended to assist those people who believe they have a claim to British nationality but are
unable to apply for a British passport because they do not have the documents needed for a passport
application."

Since we do have a "British Citizen" passport already for my daughter, i thought maybe this document procedures may not be applicable to us.

Ok, so you think it is the same process then? I will read this in detail and apply as it guides.

Thanks once again.

Just a quick one... do you think it is worth applying for such a document at all. Would it be useful to my daughter in future for any purpose?

Do you know if citizens by descent do apply for such a certificate?

My idea is, i just don't want to be left out not applying for such a document now, when such a certificate is typically applied by others who are citizens by descent.

A consular birth certificate (which it appears you have obtained) normally acts as evidence of British citizenship, separate from a passport.

If you apply for a Home Office nationality status letter and pay the fee, they may well issue this as well.
