I will be applying for Citizenship later this year (i recently received ILR).

I have both American and Ukrainian citizenship, would the american one exempt me from this test?
If so what documents would i need to have?

PS. the american passport has recently expired - and the present application is under the ukrainian documentation.

thanks in advance...

Nataliia

You would need to submit your US passport to demonstrate that you're a national of an English speaking country.

Thank you for reply,

My american passport is now 3 years expired, can i still send it for proof of my american citizenship?
I was resident there for 12 years.

I`m afraid the UKBA site is very vague on this.

thank-you,
Nataliia.

See page 36-37: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... iew=Binary

The wording is confusing. They require a valid passport. An expired passport isn't valid - you cannot travel on it. However, the exceptions to provide alternative documentation are if the expired passport isn't in your possession.

If I were you, I'd renew my US passport to be on the safe side.
