foreign referee in my AN form

Dear members,

Could you help me filling out the referee section in my AN form?
In the referee section, can I use my MA supervisor in the university (UK) as the first referee? He is not British but Spanish.
I found some posts here that the first referee should be a professional person who is not necessarily British, and
the first referee can be a foreign national in the applicant's community.

The problem is that I'm not Spanish.
My questions are
1. If the first referee is a foreign national, should it be the same as my nationality?
2. If my supervisor act as a first referee, is that ok leaving a blank in the section of current British citizen passport number?
Obviously, he doesn't have a British passport as he is Spanish.

Would you please clarify this for me?

First referee does not have to be British and here is the list of professions that Home Office allows:

Thank you very much for your reply.
If the first referee is a foreign national, I would like to make sure that the first referee's nationality doesn't need to be the same as my nationality. Is that right?

I am almost certain that it is irrelevant that both of you should be of same nationality.
Read section 5:
One referee should be a person of any nationality who is of professional standing

milan69, thank you so much for your kind reply and link!
I read through your link, and I am pretty sure that the first referee's nationality is irrelevant to my nationality.
Please can someone tell me if I am wrong.
