Unpaid council tax arrears

Dear All,

I need some advice.

In the AN application form the form requires your address for the last 5 years. Now I understand that the HO may check whether council tax were paid for each address.

Now I do know that i did have an arrears with the council in 2009/10 and than moved to the new property with intention of following up with them but forgot with all the hustle and bustle etc.

Anyways to cut the story short, will HO do checks whether council tax was being paid or not? If they do find a council tax arrears will this refuse my application even though i have paid all my council tax to date?

Today I tried calling the council but the wait was over 25 minutes and could not get through. I sent an email to inquire my status if i can pay my balance in installments and awaiting reply. I even tried signing up with the council tax reference dated 2009/10 online and the search could not find my details!
What does that mean that the council don't have a record of me?

I would really appreciate feedback as this is the only issue I have stopping me applying for my naturalization.

Thank you

ZZ

As far as I know HO sometimes carries checks for council tax and national insurance contributions.

Thanks Milan.

Bit of a risk. Why else would they require your address gor the last 5 years?

From my investigation the council had no record of my refrence numbet or name.

What should I do?

Thanks

Most important thing is that you haven't broken the law. And even if you have you must make sure that you fall into "good character" category meaning that you have declared your misdeed and fulfilled the necessary time frame before applying.
Another reason they want to see where we lived for the past 5 years could be because they can check if there are any outstanding CCJ and similar, at least that is what I think.
You may want to double check all this with senior members.
