Taking life in the UK test for British citizenship

I came to the UK in 2004, my husband in 2005 and my children in 2006. We got Indefinite Leave to Remain in 2008 and at that time my children were 16 and 17 years old. Hence, they were exempted to take the test. My husband and I applied for British citizenship in 2010 and at that time my children were already 18 and 19. Since life in the UK test was not compulsory for them at the time we applied for ILR, may I ask if they will still need to take the test when they apply for British citizenship?
My children did their GCSEs, A-Levels and undergraduate degrees here in UK.
So my question now is, do my children need to take life in the UK test for British citizenship?
TIA!
