Hi All. My wife is a French citizen and she is applying for BC through naturalisation. We are planning to travel to India immediately after that and stay there for a few months as I am an Indian national. Is it possible to apply for your first British Passport after naturalisation from another country ie India in this case?

Yes you can but it will still be sent to the UK to be processed and takes a lot longer.

Please explain with links/pointers and also is it possible if nationality is Indian instead of french.

thanks for the reply, much appreciated. As i stated above, I am an Indian national residing here on a EEA family permit. After my wife becomes a BC through naturalisation, do i qualify for a BC as I have spent 3 years here in UK and not 5 +1 to qualify otherwise.

No you won't qualify for BC unless you have ILR or PR. How long have you been married to an EU citizen and when does your EU RC expire?

We got married in Jul 2009, i moved to UK in Sep 2010. The EEA family permit (RC) is valid until March 2016.

You will need to wait till 2016 to apply for PR and once you receive PR, if your wife is British at that time, you can apply immediately for BC.

You cannot use a combination of UK immigration and EU rules.
