MN1 application for child born outside the UK

Hi all,

Many thanks in advance for any responses to my query.

My husband is a British Citizen by naturalisation. My 7 year old daughter was born outside the UK. Both she and I have ILR, taken separately. I got mine in Apr 2012 on the 10-year rule, and hers in May 2012 as my husband's dependent.

I would now like to apply for Naturalisation for my daughter (only), and not for myself for the moment due to issues in applying for dual citizenship in my home country.

My query is: Can I apply for Naturalisation for my daughter only (by herself) on the MN1, under the Discretionary (Sec 3.1) rules? Or is it mandatory for me to apply together with her as a combined Family application? Not sure if this is pertinent, but my daughter has special needs.

Many thanks.

Assuming your child was born abroad before your spouse naturalised. You'll need to have ILR and the child will need to have ILR/ILE and be present in the UK. In such case registration by discretion should be successful.

Hello my 2 daughters aged 5 and 10 were born in Pakistan and my wife is a british citizen but since she wasnt born in the UK(nor has she lived there other than a few months on vacation's) and hence could not pass on the nationality to the children . If we shift to London what is the time frame for the children to get the citizenship? Normally i think the time is 5 to 6 years however from reading from posts on MN1 i feel that maybe they might get it in 3 years.
