Hi,

I am applying for the naturalization and I was in doubt about the English language requirement whether HO will accept the PBS calculator and orginial degree certificate. I had sent an email to HO(KnowledgeOfLifePolicyQueries@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk) and I got a positive reply within 24 hours.I am chuffed with the quick response honestly. I thought of sharing this email conversation on this site as it will be useful for many people like me and save money by avoiding to apply for UK Naric. Also, I have attached the fact sheet they sent to me (sorry - can't attach this, it is pdf file).

My Question Was:

I am applying for the British Citizenship and I have a query regarding the English Language requirement.

I have a Bachelor's Degree from the Indian university. This university is listed in the PBS calculator and I can get 10 points. I have submitted the same degree certificate previously to HO when I applied for Tier 2 visa and for ILR.

I am planning to apply through NCS in XXXX.

Can I submit the PBS calculator print out and original degree to prove the English language at NCS in XXXXX or Is it mandatory to get a letter from the UK Naric to confirm that my degree is acceptable and in line with the UK degree?

Could you please clarify my query asap? So that when I apply at NCS, my application should not be refused.

Many thanks for your enquiry.

Yes the Home Office will accept your original degree certificate along with a PBS Calculator printout. You must however score 20 points or more to prove your degree is comparable to a UK degree and 10 points to prove it was taught in English.

You can only do this through the tier 1 general option on the calculator, whether or not you were on this route. The dates in which you entered are irrelevant for the purposes of using the calc for English language purposes. We are only interested in the score of 30 or more points.

Providing you score 30 points or more you will not need to get a UKNARIC assessment.

I hope this has clarified.
