Naturalisation for myself with children but without wife?

I'm married with two children (7&10) and we live together at the same address. All four of us are EU citizens with passports from same EU member country. I meet all the requirements for naturalisation in the UK. My wife would need to wait for another two years. I don't want to wait as fees continue to rise and due to EU exit vote and potential implications. Has anybody else been in a similar situation and how successful was the granting of citizenship to children, as this is discretionary as I understand it? My wife is in agreement and would give permission with my and our children's applications. Surely I meet all the requirements and there is no reason for me not to get the UK citizenship but what about our children? Would they get the UK citizenship or would they be denied because my wife doesn't apply together with us?

A friend of mine did something similar a few years ago- he was here as an EU spouse, but applied for UK citizenship for himself and their children when he qualified. She did not apply with them, and it was fine as far as I can recall.
He now has passports from 3 countries, the children 4 each, his wife 2.
