Hi,

I am applying jointly with my partner. We haven't married yet. Can we apply together?

She hasn't registered for the WRS ever. We are both A8 countries.

Two questions:
1. Can we apply together without an official marriage (we are getting married next year, we wanted to apply for citizenship before)
2. Can we apply despite not having WRS, we have been in the country over 8 years each. Worked and paid taxes all that time.

thanks for any help

This the explanation from Jambo's FAQ on British Citizenship re WRS registration.
'If you never registered, then your employment years can't be counted as lawful under the EEA regulations and will not lead to PR and British citizenship. This means that your 5 years for PR (and 6 years for BC) started in May 2011 (when the scheme was closed). You should be able to apply for naturalisation in 2017.'

You've said your partner was never WRS registered but were you and if so, for how long before the registration was abolished in May 2011?

There is no longer a joint fee for married couples, although as you aren't married you wouldn't have qualified had this reduction still been an option.

Is there a way to check if we have applied for WRS?

My partner says her employer might have applied. I can't find my certificate neither now :-/
