I am a non EEA citizen married to a British Citizen. I am also on 2 year route. I am going to apply for ILR this week. I also wishing to apply citizenship when I qualify it.

Marriage visa was issued in Feb 2012
Leave to Remain was issued in Feb 2013

Now I am going to apply for ILR as I completed 2 years and my current leave is expiring.

My question is when does the qualifying period of citizenship starts? Does it starts from the issuing date of my Marriage Visa or Leave to Remain?

I read the qualification rules on the UKBA website and saw that there is a mandatory requirement of stay in the Uk at least 12 months with the ILR, for those who are on 5 year route. However there is no such requirement mentioned, or I couldn't see, on the 'partners of British Citizens' section. I would like to apply for citizenship straightforward after my ILR application if the qualification period starts with the issuing date of my marriage visa as I would be completed my 3 years legally.

Qualifying period is counted from the day you entered the UK with the marriage Visa, and not when it was issued.

After 3 years residence , then you will be able to qualify.
