Hello
I just got naturalized and received my new British passport.
And last week I happened to travel to Germany and upon my return at Gatwick
I thought I would give a try at those ePassport gates.
And my ePassport didn't work there and I was then asked to go to the immigration desk and that's where the officer informed me that there is restriction on my name as it is very common name.
And I should contact Home Office and they will remove it.

Now I have looked up, down, right and left but cannot find any contact details for Home Office.
Is there any email. ?

I tried contacting naturalization department but they said they cannot help.

Would any one of you happen to know an email address for Home Office ?

You would probably need to contact HMPO, the branch of the HO that issues passports.

A Google search for "contact HMPO" turned up the link https://www.gov.uk/passport-advice-line. There are phone numbers and a contact form listed on the link.

I got reply from Passport Office.
They said its got nothing to do. And I should contact Home Office.

Do you have HO contact details ?

I am guessing its just a bad chip. Does your passport look like below? (with a EU description on top and Biometric "box" sign at bottom)


If yes, then perhaps its just damaged and faulty and you might need to replace it?

Passport is fine.
Immigration officers told me there is nothing wrong in the passport, chip etc. It reads fine.

It is my "name".
He told me there are certain names which triggers the system automatically, and my name is one of them.
As it is one the very common Muslim name.
And he advised me to contact Home Office and they will have it removed from your passport.

They checked the passport thoroughly and then told me about this.

Now i cannot seem to find any contact details of Home Office. Which department is it.

I suppose you can write to them.

I still can't get my head around that they could put such a ban on a name. Talk about generalisation...
I hope your are not talking about the name Muhammed. I have a friend with first name as Muhammed and he uses E Passport gates all the time.

No its not Muhammed.
But my first name is very arabic or say ancient arabic name.
At this current time, you will find this name in Dubai.

I have same problem with Western Union when recieving money.
I have to wait upto 45mins - before they carry out checks and clear the name.

Don't know who and where to contact them. :@
