Hi,

We applied for our child's UK passport three months ago.

Both parents are EU passport holders and have lived & worked in the UK for 10 years ("legally settled"). Child was born in the UK.

We received a letter today asking us to provide more information. We need to prove 5 years of continuous period of "exercising our Treaty Rights".

Has anyone dealt with such a request for?
Can we email documents or must original be sent?
What documents do you send (all/some)?
What documents do you send if you are self employed?
How do you source some of the HMRC and DWP documents?

The letter states:
Documentation to cover this period:

Original P60s HMRC tax calculations for 2009/10 to 2013/14

A statement from HMRC confirming employment History for these years

A statement from HMRC confirming tax returns for these years

A statement from thw DWP showing that no benefits have been claimed for these years

A statement from the DWP confirming National Insurance contributions for these periods

Original payslips to cover these years

Bank statements to cover the period

This is because we do not have any evidence for these years

Please note that photocopied documents cannot be accepted.

You and your partner need to proof 5yrs of exercise treaty right before your child passport can be approved. Simply send all the documents they request for and this will proof your 5yrs of treaty right in the UK.

Easiest is to submit 5 P60 from 5 continuous years before the child's birth.

I am self employed so I only really have electronic copies of Company Accounts and personal tax returns for the past 5 years. Would this be adequate?

The letter isn't clear but apparently I only need to supply documents for myself (as applicants' responsible parent). I do not need to provide any evidence for my wife. Is this correct?

I do not have any of the other documents they require.
