EU member for British citizenship

Hi guys
As a member of the EU do we need to have permanent residence card or we can apply straight away for naturalisation?
This is not very clear

Thank you very much, another small question,
I understand that permanent residence card is not necessary for EU members, but does it make the process smoothly with it? Or is just a waste of time and money?

I am not from EEA so I am not sure about PR affecting Timelines, but I have read here in either case the applications taking too long or getting result immediately.
Having said that. From the same link I provided above, you can follow Q6 and then you can decide for yourself.

Hi,
I had it and got my approval within 5 weeks. So I say it smoothes the way to get BC
